Roter Veltliner is an earthy old white-wine grape with pale-red berries at full ripeness. A speciality at Mantlerhof with a long tradition. It is the parent of Neuburger, Frühroter Veltliner and Rotgipfler, and was the first grape variety admitted to the Slow Food "Ark of Taste". This Roter Veltliner is aged in used barriques. The Ried Ungut is a little more linear than Ried Reisenthal; thanks to the oak ageing, the wine is somewhat reminiscent of a French Chablis. It is the result of several picking passes, with very careful separation and selection.
